Interpretative Perspectives on the Exhibition Theme
《Returning Home》: A Journey in Search of Belonging and Meaning
Returning home is not merely a physical journey but a voyage of the heart. It embodies humanity’s profound longing for love, security, and reconciliation. In the Bible, “homecoming” symbolizes the awakening of the soul, the redemption of grace, and the restoration of relationships—between humanity and God, and among one another. In life’s journey, returning home also represents the pursuit of identity, love, and inner peace.
1. From Being Lost to Being Found—The Quest for True Belonging
Everyone experiences moments of being lost, whether on the path of faith or in the search for life’s purpose. The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11–32) tells a story of wandering and return, reflecting God’s unfailing love and humanity’s deep-seated desire for belonging. Even in our worldly pursuits, we yearn to find a place of rest—within family, friendships, or career. Yet, true belonging often transcends the external and reaches into the depths of the soul.
2. Brokenness and Reconciliation—Healing Relationships
Coming home is more than a physical return; it is the mending of what was broken. The father in the Prodigal Son story welcomes his child with open arms, demonstrating God’s boundless forgiveness. In our own lives, we often struggle amidst fractured relationships, yearning for reconciliation with family, friends, and even ourselves. The essence of coming home lies in letting go of fear, embracing love, and allowing our hearts to reconnect and heal.
3. Redemption and Renewal—The True Meaning of Homecoming
Jesus came into the world to lead us back to God’s household, where life is transformed. Returning home is not confined to a familiar place; it is also an opportunity for awakening and rebirth. Even for those who do not share the Christian faith, life is filled with new beginnings. Through struggles, pain, and growth, we gain deeper understanding and hope, stepping into a new chapter of life.
4. Family and Fellowship—A Haven of Love
Home is not merely a physical space; it is a harbor of love. In the Bible, the Church is described as the household of God—a spiritual family where believers are united and grow together. More broadly, everyone longs to be accepted, understood, and part of a community that offers mutual support and shared life. Truly coming home means finding a place where one feels secure and loved.
5. Inner Peace—A Steadfast Refuge Beyond the World
We live in a world of constant change, where anxiety and uncertainty often surround us. Yet, the true meaning of coming home lies not only in returning to the familiar but in discovering inner calm. Jesus promised, “Peace I leave with you” (John 14:27). For Christians, this peace comes from trusting in God; for others, coming home signifies finding rest—whether in family bonds, friendships, or within the depths of one’s own heart. Though life is a fleeting journey, our ultimate hope is a better home yet to come.
Conclusion: An Invitation Home
Coming home is a journey every person will undertake. It is not simply about returning to a physical location but about discovering the destination of the soul. For Christians, homecoming is about turning to God and receiving redemption and renewal. For others, it is about turning to love, seeking purpose, and finding belonging. May this exhibition serve as an opportunity for each artist to portray their own path of returning home, and may it invite you to reflect: Where is home? Have you already set out on that journey?
Wherever you may be, love is waiting.
